Day 1, arrive in Washington DC, 3 hours different from Tucson. Now waiting for our rented car inside the airport.

Day 2, National Mall.

Washington Monument-James K. Polk attended the cornerstone-laying ceremony on July 4, 1848 along with future president, Congressman Abraham Lincoln. Chester A. Arthur dedicated the monument on February 21, 1885. Woodrow Wilson, Harry S Truman, and Barack Obama each visited the monument during their presidencies.

Inside US Capitol, it is a Old Supreme Court Chamber from 1810 - 1860

this room served as the Senate Chamber and from 1806 until 1860, the room was used as the Supreme Court Chamber. In 1860, the Supreme Court began using the newly vacated Old Senate Chamber. Since 1935, the Supreme Court has met in the United States Supreme Court Building

Capitol Rotunda

Smithsonian Institution Building, the Castle

The building is constructed of red Seneca sandstone in the faux Norman style (a 12th-century combination of late Romanesque and early Gothic motifs) and is appropriately nicknamed The Castle.

Actually, we put this building last in our trip in Washington DC. However you should visit this building in your 1st stop in National Mall. Because they will let you know the "Must See" inside National Mall. Sigh... wasted. I missed the USPS Museum.

It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965
